Ryan Nall
Ryan Nall Inks deal with Dallas
Fri, Apr 8, 2022, 1:01 PM
Nall signed a contract with the Cowboys on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Nall averaged five touches per season over his previous three years with Chicago. He figures to be a depth option behind Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard heading into the 2022 campaign.
Michael Gallup
Michael Gallup Week 1 status TBD
Mon, Mar 28, 2022, 4:58 PM
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted Monday that Gallup (knee) isn't a lock to be available for Week 1 action, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys clearly have confidence in Gallup's long-term prospects, having recently signed the wideout to a five-year deal, reportedly worth up to $62.5 million. However, Jones acknowledged that Gallup, who tore his ACL this past January, may not be 100 percent by the time the team's season opener rolls around. "Optimistically, I expect him to give us a question mark around the first game," Jones noted Monday. "And I see a conversation that says conservatively, you would like to have a couple more games to get him out there." Once Gallup is ready play, he and CeeDee Lamb will head Dallas' wideout corps, with Amari Cooper no longer in the mix, but if Gallup ends up out or limited early on this season, added opportunities would be available for James Washington and Noah Brown.
Dalton Schultz
Dalton Schultz Signs franchise tag
Mon, Mar 21, 2022, 5:04 PM
Schultz signed his franchise tag tender with the Cowboys on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
Analysis: The Cowboys and Schultz' representatives can continue to work out a long-term deal through July 15, but if nothing pans out he'll play out the 2022 season on a $10.9 million salary. After emerging with a 63-615-4 line on 89 targets in 16 games in 2020, he broke out even further with 78 catches (on 104 targets) for 808 yards and eight TDs in 17 contests last season. Dallas has made some adjustments to its receiving corps this offseason, moving on from Amari Cooper (traded to Cleveland) and Cedrick Wilson (signed with Miami), so Schultz' current competition for targets in 2022 are CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, who is recovering from a Week 17 ACL tear.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott Announces shoulder is healthy
Mon, Mar 21, 2022, 4:53 PM
Prescott said Monday that his left, non-throwing shoulder is "fine," and he has no limitations following surgery in February, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: When the surgery was reported in early March, it was termed a "clean-up" procedure, according to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News. With his health not in question for the offseason program, Prescott now can focus on getting acquainted with a revised receiving corps that lost Amari Cooper via trade to the Browns and Cedrick Wilson in free agency to the Dolphins. At this point, CeeDee Lamb is the Cowboys' unquestioned top wide receiver, followed by Michael Gallup -- who tore his ACL in Week 17 -- newcomer James Washington and Noah Brown. As for the rest of the skill positions, Prescott has holdovers Ezekiel Elliott (knee) and Tony Pollard at running back and Dalton Schultz at tight end.
James Washington
James Washington Going home to Texas
Fri, Mar 18, 2022, 6:13 PM
The Cowboys and Washington agreed to a one-year contract Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: A second-round pick in 2018, Washington wasn't able to make much headway in a stacked Steelers receiving corps in four campaigns with the team, topping out at 44 catches (2019), 735 yards (2019) and five touchdowns (2020) in any given year. The Texas native will be stuck behind CeeDee Lamb and eventually Michael Gallup once the latter is recovered from a torn ACL suffered Week 17 of last season. Until that happens, Washington's competition for WR reps consists of Noah Brown, pending further additions to the group this offseason.
Jeremy Sprinkle
Jeremy Sprinkle Re-signs with Dallas
Tue, Mar 15, 2022, 1:08 PM
Sprinkle agreed to a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: While Sprinkle played nearly every game for a fourth straight year, the 2017 fifth-round pick was primary used as a blocker during the 2021 campaign and caught just three passes for 31 yards. With the release of Blake Jarwin, Sprinkle is elevated to the No. 2 tight end on the depth chart behind Dalton Schultz, though Sprinkle figures to continue serving mostly as a blocker in 2022.
Michael Gallup
Michael Gallup Stays in Big D on five-year deal
Sun, Mar 13, 2022, 6:09 PM
Gallup (knee) signed a five-year, $62.5 million contract extension with the Cowboys on Sunday.
Analysis: Gallup had been trending toward a deal to remain with the Cowboys since early March, and he'll avoid free agency with a deal that will keep him in Dallas through the 2026 season. The 26-year-old sustained a clean ACL tear in early January, but there's hope that he'll be cleared for game action in time for the start of the regular season. Gallup appeared in nine games during the 2021 campaign and secured 35 of 62 targets for 445 yards and two touchdowns. Once he's fully healthy, he's in line to serve as the Cowboys' clear No. 2 receiver behind CeeDee Lamb after the team traded Amari Cooper to the Browns on Saturday.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott Agrees to contract restructure
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 11:41 AM
The Cowboys have restructured Prescott's (shoulder) contract, a move that that frees up about $15 million in salary cap space in advance of free agency, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: By converting a portion of Prescott's 2022 base salary into a signing bonus, the Cowboys gain added flexibility for free agent signings, as well as inking the team's upcoming draft class. The QB is bouncing back from an offseason clean-up procedure on his left (non-throwing) shoulder that isn't expected to impact his ability to participate in the Cowboys' offseason workouts. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old figures to be working with a re-tooled wideout corps this coming season, with Dallas expected to part ways with Amari Cooper and both Michael Gallup (knee) and Cedrick Wilson poised to become free agents.
Noah Brown
Noah Brown Signs one-year deal with Dallas
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 11:12 AM
Brown signed a one-year contract with the Cowboys on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Brown, who was drafted by Dallas in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft, will stick with the franchise for a fifth season. He finished the 2021 campaign with 16 catches on 25 targets for 184 yards over 13 games, though a significant amount of that production (six catches for 53 yards) came in a Thanksgiving loss to the Raiders when both CeeDee Lamb and Amari Cooper were sidelined. Brown is expected to once again operate as a depth wideout for the Cowboys in 2022.
Dalton Schultz
Dalton Schultz Franchise tag official
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 11:03 AM
The Cowboys officially placed their franchise tag on Schultz on Tuesday.
Analysis: Schultz will carry a $10.9 million salary to stick with the Cowboys for the 2022 campaign, which gives both sides another year to negotiate an extension. The soon-to-be 26-year-old proved his value on offense by racking up 808 yards and eight touchdowns across 17 contests last season, and with Blake Jarwin (hip) expected to miss the start of the 2022 campaign, shoring up the No. 1 tight end spot was exceptionally vital. What's more, Amari Cooper has been floated as a potential cut candidate and Michael Gallup (knee) isn't necessarily a lock for Week 1 even if re-signed. That could position Schultz to kick off the upcoming campaign as the No. 2 target on offense behind CeeDee Lamb.
Dalton Schultz
Dalton Schultz Getting franchise tag
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 9:07 AM
The Cowboys will place their franchise tag on Schultz on Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Schultz emerged with 78 catches, 808 receiving yards and eight scores across 17 appearances in 2021, and with rumors abounding about Amari Cooper potentially being cut, it makes obvious sense for Dallas to keep the 2018 fourth-round pick in house. Having Schultz through the 2022 season on just under an $11 million salary gives he and the Cowboys more time to negotiate on a potential long-term deal. Dallas stands to make the transaction official prior to Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline.
Dalton Schultz
Dalton Schultz Candidate for franchise tag
Mon, Mar 7, 2022, 6:04 PM
The Cowboys may place the franchise tag on Schultz prior to Tuesday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: The rumor mill has swirled around the Cowboys' receiving corps in recent days, with Amari Cooper potentially getting cut and Michael Gallup's (knee) reps negotiating an extension for the four-year pro. As a 2018 fourth-round pick, Schultz himself is due a new contract, but the team is considering placing the franchise tag on him to give more time to work out a new deal. If those talks fall through, though, he would be due $10.9 million under the tag in 2022. Schultz is coming off back-to-back productive seasons in which he reeled in 141 of 193 passes for 1,423 yards and 12 touchdowns in 33 contests.
Michael Gallup
Michael Gallup Reportedly close to re-signing
Fri, Mar 4, 2022, 4:37 PM
The Cowboys and Gallup (knee) are reportedly working on a deal to keep the pending free agent with the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter's sources indicate that an agreement is considered close, with the latest on Gallup's chances of landing a new deal with Dallas arriving in the wake of a report that the team is prepared to move on from fellow pass-catcher Amari Cooper. In such a scenario, the Cowboys would free up needed cap space, some of which could go toward re-signing Gallup. Though the wideout is coming off a torn ACL suffered late last season, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News previously indicated that there is some optimism that the 26-year-old could be ready for start of the 2022 campaign.
Amari Cooper
Amari Cooper Likely on the move
Fri, Mar 4, 2022, 12:03 PM
The Cowboys plan to try to trade Cooper, but if no deal is reached, the wideout is likely to be released, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Analysis: ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported Friday that Dallas is likely to part ways with Cooper by the start of the new league year. If the 27-year-old ends up being cut, the wideout would count $6 million against the Cowboys' salary cap in 2022 versus $22 million otherwise. Cooper is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he caught 68 passes (on 104 targets) for 865 yards and eight TDs in 15 games. If the Cowboys indeed part ways with Cooper, CeeDee Lamb would profile as the offense's top WR option, while the team could potentially elect to focus on re-signing Michael Gallup, who is bouncing back from a torn ACL.
Amari Cooper
Amari Cooper Release a real possibility
Fri, Mar 4, 2022, 9:49 AM
The Cowboys could seriously consider releasing Cooper prior to the start of the new league year, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Schefter quotes a league source as saying Dallas is "likely" to release Cooper, who will be owed a fully guaranteed $20 million March 20, the fifth day of the new league year. The news seems a likely indication that the Cowboys would listen to trade offers for the 27-year-old wideout, who was limited to 68 catches for 865 yards and eight scores through 15 appearances in 2021 but previously put together back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Releasing Cooper would free up $16 million for Dallas with just $6 million in dead cap, and position CeeDee Lamb to take over as the unquestioned No. 1 target in the passing game. If he does hit free agency, Cooper will undoubtedly have a plethora of interested suitors.
Blake Jarwin
Blake Jarwin Unlikely to be ready to begin 2022
Thu, Mar 3, 2022, 1:53 PM
Jarwin isn't expected to be available for the start of the 2022 campaign after he recently underwent hip surgery, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Jarwin's procedure is usually reserved for hockey and basketball players, and the surgery is uncommon among active NFL players. While the Cowboys are optimistic in his ability to recover, he's expected to carry a timetable of 6-to-8 months before he's cleared to return, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. As a result, the team could choose to restructure his contract or cut him during the offseason. Dalton Schultz is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in mid-March, so the Cowboys could make a push to bring him back or give him the franchise tag.
Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott Has procedure on left shoulder
Tue, Mar 1, 2022, 11:46 AM
Prescott had an offseason "clean-up" procedure on his left (non-throwing) shoulder, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: With regard to Prescott's procedure, coach Mike McCarthy noted, "It's not a concern. We have no concern. He is doing well." With that in mind, the franchise QB is expected to be a full participant in Cowboys' offseason workouts. This past season, Prescott -- who turns 29 on July 29 -- suited up for 16 games, with his only absence occurring in Week 8 when a calf injury sidelined him and led to Cooper Rush drawing a spot start for Dallas.
Cedrick Wilson
Cedrick Wilson Takes step forward in 2021
Thu, Feb 3, 2022, 3:07 PM
Wilson secured 45 of 61 targets for 602 yards and six touchdowns while rushing twice for 11 yards across 16 appearances in 2021.
Analysis: Wilson struggled to make much of an impact during his first two professional seasons, but he was much more involved in the team's offense with Michael Gallup (knee) out for a significant portion of the season. The 26-year-old's target share was somewhat inconsistent on a week-to-week basis, but he topped 100 yards twice across his final six appearances of the regular season. Whether he's able to maintain his production once Gallup returns to the field in 2022 remains to be seen, but it was encouraging to see Wilson generate more production this year after he recorded just 235 receiving yards across his first two professional seasons.
Michael Gallup
Michael Gallup Knee surgery on tap
Wed, Feb 2, 2022, 2:21 PM
Gallup is slated to undergo surgery on the torn ACL in his left knee next Thursday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Gallup is exactly one month removed from suffering the injury, and the aforementioned procedure will be undertaken by team physician Dan Cooper. There's optimism from the Cowboys that the fourth-year wide receiver will be healthy by Week 1 of next season, but for whom the upcoming unrestricted free agent will be playing remains to be seen. The team can work out a long-term deal with Gallup before he hits the open market March 16, at which point the entire league can offer him deals.
Sean McKeon
Sean McKeon Scores first career TD in 2021
Wed, Jan 19, 2022, 3:17 PM
McKeon caught four of six targets for 27 yards and a touchdown across nine games this season.
Analysis: He missed the first eight weeks of the season due to an ankle injury, but McKeon found a role as a blocker and depth tight end upon his return, and he scored his first career TD on Thanksgiving against the Raiders. The undrafted player has one more year remaining on his current contract, and he could see a larger role in 2022 if Dalton Schultz leaves in free agency.
